Goldschmidt Cabernet Sauvignon Forefathers 2019

The rolling hills and gentle slopes near the town of Sebastopol were once home to apple orchards filled with songbirds. By the early 1990s though, most of the orchards were replanted with grapes. The factors that define a quality Chardonnay vineyard are numerous, but Nick Goldschmidt believes matching varietal and rootstock to the right vineyard site yields the most flavorful grapes.

This wine has ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit aromas, with pronounced French oak. Juicy red and black fruit show on the palate with blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and dark chocolate flavors. The finish is smooth and with supple tannins giving an expansive mouthfeel, ending with a pleasing toasty oak finish.

Notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, baking spices and flowers. Hints of walnuts and wet earth, too. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins. Ripe and rich with hints of spices. Firm finish with notes of crushed stones.

After a subtle, spicy, dark-fruit aroma, this wine opens up on the palate to show excellent depth in blueberries, dark chocolate and black cherries. A nicely firm texture of fine-grained tannins and a full body add great structure for continued improvement with age.
